Which Retailer Is Cheapest for LEGO in Australia?

There is no single retailer that is always cheapest for LEGO in Australia. That is the honest answer, and it is exactly why a price-comparison site exists. But there is a clear pattern in the data, and if you want a short answer: across the LEGO sets we track that are stocked by more than one retailer, Toys R Us holds the cheapest offer most often, followed by the LEGO store itself and JustBricks. Here is what the numbers actually say, and how to use them.

This piece is a snapshot of live data. Prices move constantly, so treat the rankings as a guide to where to look first, not a guarantee for any one set. Every set page shows the last-checked price per retailer.

How we worked it out

We looked at every LEGO set on BrickTurtle that has an in-stock offer from at least two of the retailers we track, which is 659 sets. For each of those, we found which retailer held the single cheapest in-stock price, then counted the wins. A retailer that stocks a set but is not the cheapest does not score. This measures who actually wins on price when there is a genuine comparison to make, rather than who simply lists the most sets.

Who wins on price most often

Counting cheapest-offer wins across those 659 competitively-stocked sets:

• Toys R Us is cheapest most often, taking the lowest price on 264 sets.
• The official LEGO store is next with 201, which surprises people who assume the brand store is always dearest. On sale, LEGO frequently undercuts everyone.
• JustBricks takes 97 wins, a strong result for a LEGO specialist.
• The Gamesmen (74) and JB Hi-Fi (70) form the next tier.
• Mr Toys and Kmart tie on 42 each, with EB Games (28), Casey's Toys (26), Toymate (20) and MyHobbies (3) filling out the rest.

So four names do most of the winning: Toys R Us, the LEGO store, JustBricks and The Gamesmen. If you only check one place, Toys R Us is the best single bet, but it is cheapest on well under half the sets, which is the whole point: for any given set, the cheapest retailer could easily be one of the others.

Coverage is a different question

Being cheapest most often is not the same as stocking the most sets. On breadth of range, the order is different again. The official LEGO store lists the most sets we track (770), followed by JustBricks (604), JB Hi-Fi (437), Toys R Us (385) and Toymate (341). The LEGO store carries almost everything, but as the win count shows, carrying a set is not the same as pricing it lowest.

The takeaway: the retailer with the widest range (LEGO) and the retailer that wins on price most often (Toys R Us) are not the same shop. If you want the best price on a specific set, you have to compare, not default.

How to actually save on LEGO

A few practical rules that fall out of the data:

• Never assume. No retailer wins even half the time. The cheapest place genuinely varies set by set.
• Check the LEGO store on sale. It is cheapest on 201 sets in our data, so during a promotion it is often the best price, not the worst.
• Start with the big four. Toys R Us, the LEGO store, JustBricks and The Gamesmen win the large majority of comparisons between them.
• Compare on the set page. Every set on BrickTurtle lists the live offers from each retailer side by side, which is the fastest way to see today's cheapest.
